Celebrating Sister City-hood
This Saturday we will be joining several of our fellow pipe bands at The Saline Cletic Festival!
Beginning in 1996, as part of the celebration of thirty years as the Sister City of Brecon, Wales, the City of Saline created the Saline Celtic Festival. On Saturday the Festival kicks off with nearly 100 pipers parading through the Festival grounds to the opening ceremony hosted by the mayor of Saline who welcomes an average of 3,500 attendees to enjoy: Celtic music and dance performances, the International Jousting Match, Highland Athletics, Highland Dance Competition, Wee Folks Island where children 3-12 years old can do various Celtic crafts, visit Millie the Mill Pond Monster, check out Celtic K9 breeds, watching the weavers creating various tartans and weaves, exhibitions in sword play, historic encampments, acrobatics, to partake in the foods and wares being offered by various artisans.
We are delighted to once again join the festivities at Mill Pond Park (565 W. Bennett St, Saline, MI). We have the pleasure of opening the band performance for the day following the Opening Massed Bands.
The massed bands, under the leadership of Senior Drum Major Kerry Lewis, will lead the Opening Ceremony at about 11:00 am with a processional through the Festival grounds. Each band will perform a 1/2 hour concert at the Glasgow stage (see schedule below). A final Massed Bands will occur at 5:00 pm on the athletic fields.
