Introducing Your New Pipe Major
After several years of excellent service, Pipe Major George Murray has decided to step down, which prompted the election of new Pipe Major Josie Doefer.
Josie has been a member of Flint Scottish for several years, originally participating in the group’s youth band in the 2009 season. The new Pipe Major started her piping journey as a piper with the Howell High School marching band in Howell, Michigan. Piping has been one of the great joys of her life since. She participated with Flint Scottish until leaving for college, where she briefly played with Wichita Caledonian Pipe Band, before graduating and returning to Michigan. Josie has been performing and competing with Flint since returning to Michigan and also a Grade 4 solo piper.
The new Pipe Major looks forward to introducing new music and working to have a tighter musical core. She looks forward to the challenge of improving everyone’s talent, including her own. In this new role she will strive to make everyone feel included while making the core more cohesive as a performing unit. It is an honor to continue the proud tradition of Scottish culture in Flint, and the new Pipe Major is excited to be part of this incredible history. Josie is humbled by the band’s trust in her ability and looks forward to putting the organization on a strong path forward for the next hundred years.
Congrats!
Thank you, George, for your many years of dedication. Congratulations, Josie!
Congrat Josie! FSPB is in good hands!
